| Apparatus Dedication in Walker County WALKER COUNTY, GA – Today, Sunday, November 18, 2007, served as a reminder to the members of Walker County Emergency Services that even though he is not here today, one of their own lives on in their hearts. Today was the official service dedicating Rescue 15 to the memory of Lt. Melvin “Moose” Mann. The dedication of Rescue 15 took place in the quarters of Rescue 15 on Highway 27 at Lee School Road south of LaFayette, Georgia. Among others present at the dedication were, the family of Lt. Mann, the men and women of Walker Station 15, the Chief of the Department, Randy Camp and County Commissioner Bebe Heiskell. The ceremony began with opening remarks by Fire Captain Farrell Brown and then the invocation by Assistant Chief Waymond Westbrook. Captain Brown told stories about Lt. Mann and remembered him as a humorous, dedicated public servant who gave as much to the fire department and his community as any one man could. Following the invocation, Chief Randy Camp presented a plaque to Lt. Mann’s widow honoring his years of service and dedication. County Commissioner Bebe Heiskell then read a proclamation from the county honoring Lt. Mann which was given to his widow. Following the reading of the proclamation, Chief Camp officially dedicated Rescue 15 to Lt. Mann. In doing so, he explained that Rescue 15 and not a larger piece of apparatus such as an engine was being dedicated to “Moose” because it sees more action and is present and visible in the community much more than the larger apparatus. A plaque honoring Lt. Mann is permanently affixed to the apparatus and was uncovered by his family during the dedication. After closing remarks by Captain Brown, the attendees were treated to a reception in the fire hall. Lt. Mann was a dedicated member of Walker County Emergency Services for more than 25 years prior to his death about a year ago. He was a charter member of the Fire Department and a dedicated member of Station 15. |
