FORSYTH COUNTY, GA – Saturday, March 24, 2007 – At 7:39 AM, Forsyth County Engine 3 and Rural
Metro EMS 13 were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash with injuries on Matt Highway in the area of
McBrayer Road.  The crash involved a tractor trailer and a pickup truck.  Further information given to
responding crews while they were en route suggested possible entrapment.  Due to the possibility of
entrapment, Engine 12 and Rescue 12 were dispatched immediately.

Engine 3 arrived on scene to find a tractor trailer on its side and a red Dodge pickup truck with heavy
front end damage.  They did confirm entrapment in the pickup truck and no entrapment in the tractor.
The officer with Engine 3 assumed command and ordered Emory Flight for medical evacuation purposes.

Upon arrival on the scene, Engine 12 and Rescue 2 personnel began assisting with extrication.  The
trapped male was trapped between the dash and the steering wheel and was pinned from the waist
down.

Due to the extent of the damage, crews had to roll the dash and remove the driver’s side doors, both
front and rear, to extricate the driver.  The extrication process took approximately 45 minutes during
which time the driver was conscious and alert.  The patient, an off duty nurse returning home from work,
was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center.  His condition appears to be serious but not life threatening.  The
driver of the tractor trailer was only slightly injured and was transported by Med 13 to North Side Hospital
Forsyth.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident.  The Georgia Department of
Transportation was in charge of cleaning up the spill caused when the tractor trailer overturned.  The rig
was carrying a load of bags of mulch.  Matt Highway was closed for several hours for cleanup.
