| One Injured in Four Car Collision in Chattanooga CHATTANOOGA, TENN- Wednesday, May 23, 2007 – At about 3:45 PM today, the Chattanooga Fire Department was alerted to a four car motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Brainerd Road and Elmwood Drive. Callers told the 9-1-1 center that the accident possibly involved serious injury and entrapment. Upon arrival Chattanooga FD Quint 13 found four vehicles involved in the collision, with one that had taken down a tree and struck a building. Firefighters with Quint 13 immediately began assessing the injuries and checked for possible entrapment. They found that there was no one trapped in a vehicle and only two drivers had suffered any injuries. Neither of those people sustained any life threatening injuries. Of the two injured, one was treated on the scene by medics from Hamilton County EMS and transported to Erlanger Hospital. The second was complaining of neck pain and other injury but refused to be transported to a hospital. It appears that the driver of a silver colored Honda Accord was northbound on Elmwood Drive and failed to stop at the intersection of Brainerd Road. Upon entering the intersection the Honda became involved in a collision with three other vehicles, a Ford Expedition which then struck a building, a white Toyota Corolla station wagon, and a white Dodge Ram 1500 van. The Expedition struck a long building that housed several businesses. The one that suffered the damage was Yuppy Puppy, a dog grooming business located at 3236 Brainerd Road. Brainerd Road is a major four lane roadway connecting the downtown area of the city with the eastern sections of the city and Hamilton County. It is very heavily traveled and this particular section is immediately following a tunnel through the mountain. The entire roadway had to be shut down for over an hour as the injured were cared for and the accident investigated. The investigation is being completed by the Chattanooga Police Department. |
