Fort Oglethorpe Works MVC with Entrapment

FORT OGLETHORPE, GA – At 4:23 PM, Tuesday, September 4, 2007, Fort Oglethorpe Fire &
Rescue was alerted to an MVC with entrapment at Cloud Springs Road and Colony Circle.

Engine 1 responded and found a silver Chevrolet Trail Blazer in a ditch beside the eastbound
lane of Cloud Springs Road.  The vehicle was occupied by a female driver and was positioned so
that the driver’s side door was pinned shut by the side of the ditch.

As two firefighters tended to the patient through the window, two more made entry into the
Trailblazer from the rear.  After it was ascertained that the victim was not suffering from major
injuries, it was decided to remove her through the rear of the vehicle rather than cut the top from
the SUV.  The head rest was removed from the driver’s side seat and after medical aid was given
to the patient she was placed on a backboard and removed.  The patient was transported to
Parkridge Hospital by Angel EMS.  She appeared to have a broken arm and was in stable
condition.  An Angel EMS Supervisor also assisted from inside the vehicle.

According to law enforcement on the scene, the driver stated that a vehicle stopped abruptly in
front of her and she swerved to avoid striking it in the rear causing her to go into the ditch.  The
vehicle did strike a small tree next to the ditch before coming to rest.

The accident is under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.  Traffic was handled by the Fort
Oglethorpe Police Department.
