Occupants Flee Rollover on East Brainerd Road

HAMILTON COUNTY, TENN – Thursday, March 22, 2007 – At about 3:20 PM, the Tri-Community Volunteer
Fire Department was notified of a motor vehicle accident with fire in the 9100 block of East Brainerd Road.
Engine 1245 responded to the scene and found a silver four door Mitsubishi car on its side next to a black
Jeep.  Both vehicles were in a parking lot and neither of them was on fire.

According to witnesses on the scene, the Mitsubishi was traveling eastbound on East Brainerd Road
approaching the intersection of Banks Road when it suddenly swerved off the roadway for no apparent
reason and struck a concrete wall about 18 inches high.  The male occupants of the vehicle crawled out
and began running away.  They were last seen on foot in the vicinity of Banks Road.  Witnesses said that
the vehicle briefly caught fire.  It was on its side about 30 feet from gas pumps at an adjacent service
station.  The Mitsubishi did not appear to have hit the Jeep, missing it by only inches.

Firefighters from Engine 1245 secured the electrical components of the vehicle and cleaned up fluids that
had spilled due to the accident.  The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department is conducting an investigation
into the accident.  At this time there is no definitive word why the occupants fled the scene.  The vehicle
suffered extensive front end damage and the air bags were deployed.
