Quick Response by Fort Oglethorpe Saves House

FORT OGLETHORPE, GA – At 7:19 AM, Thursday, December 27, 2007, Fort Oglethorpe Fire
and Rescue responded to 63 Rock Creek Trail on a reported residential structure fire.  Battalion
Chief Marlin Thompson (906) was the first to arrive on the scene and found a 1 ½ story house
with visible fire in a bedroom on the “B” side of the structure, first floor.  The fire was burning
through the exterior of the house and also through the floor into the crawl space under the home.

Engine 8 arrived moments later and stretched a line into the interior through the garage and
made a quick hit on the fire.  They also pulled the booster line to the B side in case it was
needed.  There was substantial damage to the one room, a child’s bedroom, and some smoke
damage to other parts of the house, but the fire was contained to that one room and the exterior
of the house adjacent to it.  The child that was sleeping in that room had left the room only about
a half an hour prior to the fire.

Battalion Chief Gary McGhee (908), Fort Oglethorpe Truck 8 and Catoosa County Truck 3 also
responded for assistance.  The Catoosa County Sheriff’s Department was on the scene.  The
cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation at this time.  There were no injuries as
a result of the fire.
