Christmas Morning Fire Levels Whitfield County Mobile Home

WHITFIELD COUNTY, GA – Shortly after 5:00 AM, Tuesday, December 25, 2007, the Catoosa County
Fire Department was dispatched to a reported mobile home fire with flames showing on Violet Lane off
of Stewart Road in the eastern most portion of the county.  As fire apparatus began to respond,
dispatch advised that the structure was possibly near the Whitfield County line.

Upon arrival at the scene, the Battalion Chief found heavy fire and a mobile home already on the
ground.  Engine 4 arrived shortly afterwards and firefighters were forced to take a defensive posture
immediately because of the structural collapse.  There were no exposure problems to deal with.  The
residence was actually located on Scott Road which is in Whitfield County.  Whitfield County responded
several pieces of apparatus and joined Catoosa County firefighters in extinguishing the blaze.

A neighbor at the scene stated that he believed the occupant, whom he described as a woman possibly
in her fifties, was out of town visiting relatives.  He said he awoke to sounds that reminded him of
firecrackers and when he looked outside his house observed the mobile home heavily involved in fire.
He stated that he, along with other neighbors called 9-1-1.  He said that several people in the area were
possibly confused about where the fire was because they are new to the area and the streets are not
well marked.  He did say that firefighters arrived fairly quickly after his call but there was not anything
they could do because of the head start the fire had.

Firefighters worked well into the morning on Christmas Day ensuring that the fire was extinguished.  The
cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.  The entire home was destroyed but no value has
yet been determined.  As of this report it appears that no one was at home at the time of the fire but
firefighters had yet to sift through all of the rubble.  Medics with Hutcheson EMS Medic 7 stood by in
case they were needed but no injuries were reported.
