Chattanooga Firefighters Get Afternoon House Fire

CHATTANOOGA, TENN – Fire Station 5 in Chattanooga is located in the 800 block of Willow
Street.  When the call came in at about 3:40 PM, Monday, December 14, 2009 at 2107 E. 12th
Street, that put Engine 5 and Ladder 5 only about 3 blocks away.  Engine 5 was on the scene
almost before the dispatch was complete and reported a working structure fire in a two story wood
frame residence.

Firefighters immediately pulled an attack line and entered the residence through the front door.
When they got to the second floor they encountered fire in an upstairs living room and spreading to
a bedroom.   Firefighters were able to get a quick knockdown on the fire and saved the rest of the
residence.  The house was vacant and boarded up and had no electric service.  According to
Bruce Garner, PIO for the Chattanooga Fire Department, a man had been living in the house until
recently but he advised firefighters he had not lived there for a while.

Captain Lesley Morgan of the Fire Investigations Division has determined that the fire is of
suspicious origin.  The exact cause and origin of the fire will remain under investigation.  Damages
are estimated at about $30,000.  There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
