FORT OGLETHORPE, GA – At just about 6:00 PM, Wednesday, November 21, 2007, Fort
Oglethorpe Fire and Rescue, along with two medic units were dispatched to the intersection of Dietz
Road and Dyer Bridge Road on an accident with injuries involving a school bus.  Chiefs 908 and 909

curve at this intersection and is known to be very slick when wet.  At the time of the accident the area
was experiencing moderate rain.

Fire apparatus arrived to find a two vehicle accident involving a Chevrolet Trail Blazer and a school
bus that had been converted into a camper type vehicle.  Both vehicles had heavy front end damage.
Firefighters began assessing the injured and found the driver of the bus, who was the sole occupant
of the vehicle, to be only slightly injured.  The Trail Blazer was occupied by a female driver and two
young children that were restrained in the back seat.  Neither of the children was badly injured
however the driver was in critical condition.  She was transported to the hospital by Angel EMS.
Hutcheson EMS transported the driver of the bus.  The children were transported for observation.

The Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office was on the scene for traffic control.  Dietz Road was shut down in
both directions for quite some time causing a major traffic backup.  The accident is being investigated
by the Georgia State Patrol.  No cause has yet been determined for the accident.  Both vehicles had
heavy right front damage.  The bus continued off the right side of the road and came to rest against a
fence.  The SUV ended up in the middle of the roadway across both lanes.
