One Critical After Fort Oglethorpe Rollover

FORT OGLETHORPE, GA – At about 4:20 PM, Thursday, November 15, 2007, Fort Oglethorpe
Fire and Rescue responded to the 5000 block of Boynton Drive on a reported rollover wreck with
injuries.  Engine 1 arrived on the scene and found a Jeep Wrangler partially on its side in a
ditch.  The driver was still inside the vehicle.

Firefighters were able to quickly ascertain that the vehicle had flipped over one time and the
driver was pinned.  Along with firefighters from Engine 8, they removed the top from the Jeep and
were able to remove the driver in about ten minutes.  He was turned over to medics with Angel
EMS for transport.  He is believed to be in critical condition.

The Georgia State Patrol, who is investigating the accident, confirmed that the vehicle was
traveling eastbound on Boynton Drive when it left the roadway and continued for quite a ways
between a deep ditch and a stone wall.  The Jeep then entered the ditch and the front end struck
the embankment causing it to flip over and turn 180 degrees so that it was facing west, remaining
in the ditch.  The reason for the vehicle leaving the roadway is unclear at this time.

Deputies with the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Department assisted with traffic control.
