CATOOSA COUNTY, GA – Just before 6:00 PM, Friday, October 16, 2009, the Catoosa County 9-
1-1 Center began receiving calls of an apartment fire on Nicole Lane.  A full response was initiated
and Catoosa Engine 3, Engine 6, Engine 1, Tanker 11 responded along with Fort Oglethorpe
Squad 1 and Ladder 1.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find heavy fire coming from two apartments of a two story brick
and wood frame building housing four apartments.  Firefighters from Engine 3 initiated a quick
attack with an inch and three quarter pre-connect.  Engine 6 laid about 1000 feet of five inch
supply line from the closest hydrant to supply Engine 3.  All hands went to work immediately on
arrival.  The crew from Engine 3 made a great stop of the fire preventing it from spreading to the
two adjacent apartments and from getting into the roof.

Crews spent considerable time hitting hot spots and doing overhaul to ensure the fire was out.
Both fire apartments were totally destroyed.  The second two suffered major smoke damage and
were rendered uninhabitable as well.  A total of four families, 7 adults and five children were
displaced as a result of the fire. All of the families are being assisted by relatives.

Angel EMS was on the scene to provide any medical care needed but there were no reported
injuries.  Fort Oglethorpe Air Light 1 responded to provide air services.  GDC 9 (Georgia
Department of Corrections firefighters) responded to Fort Oglethorpe Station 1 for coverage.  The
Catoosa County Sheriff’s Department was on the scene for traffic control.

The exact cause and origin of the fire are unknown at this time and under investigation.
