Second Fully Involved Structure in 5 Hours for Highway 58 VFD

HARRISON, TENN – Sunday, August 17, 2008 – Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department was kept
very busy today.  Firefighters left a house fire that left a residence totally destroyed at about 2:30
PM.  Two hours later they were called to a grass/woods fire and found it to involve over 30
acres.  Then, at about 5:00 PM they answered the call again for another fully involved house at
6919 Savannah Estates Drive.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find flames shooting from the front and rear of the house.
They immediately pulled hand lines and began an aggressive attack on the fire while awaiting
additional apparatus.  Eventually firefighters were able to lay a supply line to a hydrant about
800-1000 feet away but by then flames were leaping from the roof.  Eventually most of the roof
caved in and the fire gutted the entire house.

Firefighters worked for almost three hours to extinguish the fire.  Hamilton County EMS was on
the scene to provide medical care should it be needed but there were no injuries as a result of
the fire.  The homeowner was not at home when the fire broke out but did return during the fire.
The American Red Cross responded to provide assistance to the family.  The cause and origin of
the fire are under investigation at this time.  The house was deemed a total loss.

Mutual aid was provided by the Tri Community Volunteer Fire Department.
