Overnight Fire Destroys Catoosa County Home

CATOOSA COUNTY, GA – Sunday, August 17, 2008 – At about 4:00 AM, the Catoosa County
Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire with possible entrapment at 116
Carol Court.  Engine 13, Engine 3, Engine 6, Truck 3, Tanker 3 and the Walker State Prison
Fire Department responded.

The first firefighter on the scene reported a single story stucco residence with heavy fire
through the roof.  It could not immediately be verified if the residents were at home or if in fact
there was entrapment.  As apparatus arrived, several hose lines were placed into service and
an interior attack was begun.  Firefighting efforts were hampered by the lack of a nearby
hydrant and for a time firefighters were forced to go to a defensive mode while awaiting the
arrival of a tanker for water supply.

Despite the efforts of the firefighters, about fifty percent of the home was destroyed by the fire
and the remainder was heavily damaged by heat, smoke and water.  Primary and secondary
searches were performed and no victims were located inside the building.  Firefighters
remained on the scene for hours while extensive overhaul was performed.  Medics with
Hutcheson EMS were on the scene but there were no injuries as a result of the fire.

One East Ridge FD engine company and one engine company from Tri Community VFD
responded to the mutual aid request to back in to Catoosa Station 1 for stand by.
