Quick Stop in Fort Oglethorpe

FORT OGLETHORPE, GA – Thursday, July 24, 2008 – At about 6:30 AM, Fort Oglethorpe Fire and
Rescue was dispatched on a residential structure fire at 4231 Boynton Drive.  Deputy Chief Merv
McDonald arrived on the scene and reported a single story wood frame dwelling with light smoke
showing.  Chief McDonald requested Catoosa Station 6 to be dispatched also.
Fort Oglethorpe Fire Resceue Engine 8 followed closely by Catoosa Engine 6 arrived on the
scene.  Firefighters from both departments worked together using a booster line.  Fire in the living
room and the kitchen was quickly extinguished and overhaul work was begun to check for
extensions.  FOFR Ladder 1 assisted in interior operations.
Fire extension was found during overhaul in the attic and was quickly extinguished.  Fire damages
were limited to the two rooms and part of the attic.  The house suffered smoke damage throughout.
The homeowner was at home at the time the fire began.  Relatives attempted to extinguish the fire
with a home fire extinguisher.  No one was injured as a result of the fire.
The Red Cross was contact and provided assistance to the homeowner.
Fire apparatus from Fort Oglethorpe and Catoosa remained on the scene for about two and a half
hours during the fire operation.  Boynton Drive was closed during this period for fire operations
safety.
Equipment dispatched to the fire were Fort Oglethorpe Engine 8, Engine 1, Ladder 1 and Catoosa
Engine 6.
