Fully Involved Building for Tri Community VFD

HAMILTON COUNTY, TENN – Tuesday, July 15, 2008 – At about 10:40 PM, the Tri Community
Volunteer Fire Department was alerted to a structure fire in the 9500 block of East Brainerd Road.
While en route firefighters were advised of a possible change of address to 8900 Bel-Air Road near
East Brainerd Road.

Engine 1245 arrived on the scene to find a single story combination garage/storage building/barn fully
involved in fire at the dead end of Bel-Air Road.  Access was made difficult but a padlocked gate
across the roadway as well as a steep dirt area leading down to the house.  A second entrance to the
area was blocked by a back hoe.  Engine 1245 laid several hundred feet of supply line from the
closest hydrant and then pulled an attack line and began to work the fire.  Since firefighters
determined that no one was inside the building and there was no chance to save anything, firefighting
efforts were defensive from the beginning.

Additional manpower arrived quickly and placed another inch and three quarter line in service.
Firefighters spent about three hours extinguishing the fire and doing overhaul before returning to
service.

Hamilton County EMS was on the scene but there were no injuries due to the fire.  The Hamilton
County Sheriff’s Department was on the scene and is working in conjunction with the Fire Marshal to
determine the cause and origin of the fire.  Damage estimates for the building and contents are about
$45-50,000.
