One Injured in SUV vs. Scooter in East Ridge

EAST RIDGE, TENN – Wednesday, July 9, 2008 – At about 3:50 PM, the East Ridge Fire
Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries on McBrien Road at Lazard
Street.  The East Ridge Fire Department was involved in fighting a residential structure fire so Fort
Oglethorpe Engine 10 responded to the call along with Memorial EMS.

Upon arrival firefighters found a Honda Silver Wing Scooter on its side partially under the front end
of a Ford Explorer.  The driver of the scooter was obviously injured and firefighters began
rendering aid until medics arrived.  The driver, a male, was stabilized and transported to Memorial
Hospital.  He was complaining of excruciating pain in his upper left leg.  He was wearing a prosthetic
device on his left leg below the knee.  The driver also had visible cuts and abrasions on his face
and arms.

Witnesses stated that the scooter had been traveling northbound on McBrien Road and was
negotiating a right hand turn onto Lazard Street.  The explorer was on Lazard Street approaching
McBrien.  As the scooter made the turn it went into the oncoming lane and struck the Explorer head
on.  The Honda scooter was only one or two days old.

There were no other injuries as a result of the accident.
