East Ridge Gets Early Morning Job

EAST RIDGE, TENN – At 5:24 AM, Sunday, July 05, 2009, 9-1-1 received a call reporting a house
on fire at 1011 Hurst Street in East Ridge, Tennessee.  Both stations of the East Ridge Fire
Department were alerted and Quint 1 and Squad 2 responded immediately.  Firefighters quickly
arrived on the scene to find a single story dwelling heavily involved in fire with flames shooting
through the roof.

An “all call” was issued for off duty firefighters and Fort Oglethorpe (Georgia) Fire and Rescue was
notified for automatic aid.  Firefighters pulled hand lines and immediately began an aggressive
interior attack as well as a primary search for victims.  The search was negative and the battle
continued for quite a while until the fire was brought under control.  Firefighters were able to save
about half of the structure but that part sustained heavy smoke, water and heat damage.  Total
damage is estimated at about $50,000.

Also responding to the call were East Ridge Engine 1, Engine 2, Rescue 1, Support 2 and Fort
Oglethorpe Engine 1.  Memorial EMS stood by on the scene and the East Ridge Police Department
also provided support.  There were no injuries as a result of the fire.  The house is in the process of
being sold and there was no one at home when the fire broke out.  The Arson Division of the East
Ridge Fire Department is conducting an investigation.
