Overnight Fire in Fort Oglethorpe Leaves Six Homeless

FORT OGLETHORPE, GA - Friday, July 04, 2008 - An early morning fire at 67 Cloud
Springs Road has left a family of six homeless after their home was destroyed.  The fire was
called in to the 9-1-1- communications center at about 3:30AM.  Fire apparatus from Fort
Oglethorpe Fire and Rescue as well as Walker State Prison responded to the call.

Assistant Chief Glenn Davis (903) was the first to arrive and reported a single family home well
involved in fire. Engine 1 was the first apparatus to arrive and pulled attack lines to two sides of
the structure. It had been confirmed that the family was out of the house and due to the heavy
amount of fire and no positive water source established, firefighters immediately went into a
defensive mode. The roof had already collapsed at this point and fire was raging throughout the
house.

When Engine 8 arrived laid approximately 800 feet of supply line from a
hydrant at the corner of Cloud Springs Road and Cross Street. Once the water
source was established, Engine 8 firefighters joined in the attack.

Firefighters spent about four hours ensuring that all of the fire was
extinguished. Preliminary indications are that the fire was accidental but it
is still under investigation. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
The American Red Cross was called in and is assisting the family with a place to
stay. Angel EMS, Fort Oglethorpe Police Department and Catoosa County Sheriffs officers
assisted at the scene.  Cloud Springs Road along with Cross Street were closed due to the LDH
laid and fire scene safety while firefighters were working the fire.
