Abandoned House Burns in Catoosa County

CATOOSA COUNTY, GA – Monday, June 23, 2008 – Just before 10:00 PM, the Catoosa County
Fire Department was notified of a residential structure fire on Lake Road near Wilbanks Road.
Callers reported the structure fully involved.

Engine 13, Engine
1, Engine 4 and Walker State Prison Fire Department responded to the call.
The first firefighter on the scene advised that he had a fully involved structure located well off the
roadway in a heavily wooded area.  He also advised of exposure problems with at least one other
building.

Engine 3 laid approximately 800 feet of supply line from the closest hydrant and firefighters pulled
two, inch and three quarter lines from Engine 13.  Firefighters attacked the structure from two
different points.  Due to the heavy fire and the fact that the structure had been abandoned for
years firefighters took a defensive posture from the beginning.  Firefighting efforts were also
hampered by heavy woods and underbrush surrounding the house.

As firefighters brought the fire under control, Georgia Forestry arrived with a bulldozer and plowed
a large break around what was left of the structure.  The structure was a total loss but the value is
unknown.  The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
