Quick Work on Car Fire Saves House

HAMILTON COUNTY, TENN – Friday, June 13, 2008 – Friday the 13th  turned out to somewhat lucky for
the owner of a pickup truck destroyed by fire at 6238 Kevin Lane when firefighters managed to put out
the flames before his house was destroyed.

Just after 1:30 PM, Highway 58 volunteer firefighters were alerted to a residential structure fire at that
address.  As the first engine company responded they reported being able to see smoke from a couple
of miles away.  As they approached the scene, firefighters realized that the closest hydrant was too far
away to establish a positive water source and ensured that tankers were on the way.  As they entered
the long wooded driveway they could see flames coming from the house.  The engine proceeded up the
driveway dropping a supply line as they went so that the next engine company to arrive could set up for
a water shuttle.

Firefighters from Station 2 quickly realized that the majority of the fire was coming from a pickup truck
that was fully involved sitting right next to the garage.  Flames had already begun impinging on the
garage and the siding was melting.  After pulling an inch and three quarter line, firefighters made an
aggressive hit on the fire knocking it down quickly.  The pickup was destroyed along with all its contents
which included tools.  The house received mostly superficial damage as the siding melted away.  It could
have been much worse though had not firefighters arrived as soon as they did.

The owner of the house stated that he had just put a new engine in the truck less than one month ago.
He said that he parked the truck in the driveway and about an hour later heard a loud noise.  When he
went to investigate he found the truck in flames and called 9-1-1.  The exact cause of the fire is
unknown at this time.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
