Catoosa County Battles Early Morning House Fire

CATOOSA COUNTY, GA – Saturday, May 17, 2008 – Just after 4:00 AM, the Catoosa County 9-1-1
communications center received a report of a house fire from a woman who said she could not exit
the structure.  9-1-1 operators were originally unable to ascertain the exact address of the caller
but knew it was in the area of 201 Gordy Circle.  Engine 1, Engine 3 and Engine 4 were
dispatched.  Dispatchers were finally able to find out that the fire was at 201 Wade Marlow Drive
near the intersection of Gordy Circle.

Catoosa Engine 1 arrived on the scene to find a heavily involved single story wood frame
structure.  They immediately pulled inch and three quarter hand lines and began attacking the fire.
Engine 3 was ordered to establish a positive water source upon arrival.  Approximately 600 feet of
supply line was laid from the closest hydrant and the firefighters from Engine 3 and Engine 4 joined
in the battle against the fire.

Shortly after arriving on the scene the female homeowner was located outside the structure to the
rear.  She was uninjured but visibly shaken.  She was checked by paramedics but refused
treatment and remained on the scene while firefighters extinguished the blaze.

A good portion of the exterior of the house remained in tact but the inside was a total loss.  A Volvo
850 parked in the carport adjacent to the house was also heavily damaged.  The cause and origin
of the fire are under investigation at this time.
