Fort Oglethorpe Works Garage and Outbuilding Fire

FORT OGLETHORPE, GA – At about 3:00 PM, Saturday, May 8, 2010, Fort Oglethorpe Fire and
Rescue responded to a report of a residential structure fire on Lakeview Drive near Park Avenue.
Engine 1 arrived on the scene to find a detached two story garage and a second outbuilding
heavily involved in fire.  There was no access to the fire from Lakeview Drive so firefighters were
forced to find access from Park Drive.  They stretched a five inch supply line from the corner of
Rosa Street and Lakeview Drive several hundred feet to Engine 1.

Firefighters pulled two 1 ¾ inch lines and one 2 ½ to the structure.  Neither building was occupied
so due to the heavy fire the battle was defensive from the outset.  Unfortunately, both buildings
were totally destroyed.  The cause and origin are under investigation at this time.

Fort Oglethorpe Engine 8, Engine 10, Squad 8 and Ladder 1 all responded. Angel EMS was on the
scene for stand by but no injuries were reported.  East Ridge Engine 1 responded for automatic
mutual aid and Catoosa County Engine 6 moved to Fort Oglethorpe Station 8 for coverage. Air
services and rehab were provided by Fort Oglethorpe Air/Light 1.  Because firefighters had to lay
the supply line across busy Lakeview Drive it was shut down in both directions for about two hours.
Traffic control was handled by the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Department.
