Single Vehicle Off the Roadway in Hamilton County

HAMILTON COUNTY, TENN – Wednesday, May 07, 2008 – At about 3:45 PM, the Tri community
Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched along with medics from Hamilton county EMS and the
Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department to the 9400 block of East Brainerd Road on a single
vehicle accident with injuries.  Callers stated that the vehicle had flipped over.

Battalion Chief Steve Wright (1207) and Engine 1245 responded to the scene and found a
Toyota 4Runner SUV on its side in a ditch with the female driver still inside.  After making patient
contact, firefighters were able to ascertain that the driver had only minor injuries and was
concerned about trying to exit the vehicle because of its precarious position.  Firefighters used
wooden cribbing to stabilize the vehicle and assisted the driver in exiting the SUV.  She was
checked out on the scene by paramedics with Medic 7 and refused transport to the hospital.

The vehicle had been traveling westbound on East Brainerd Road when it inexplicably left the
roadway, entered the ditch and turned onto its side while striking a tree.  The car became
wedged between two trees and the bank of the ditch.  The accident is being investigated by the
Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department.
