| Car vs. Garbage Truck Leaves One in Serious Condition in Fort Oglethorpe Fort Oglethorpe, GA, - At 7:14 AM, Wednesday, April 29, 2009, Fort Oglethorpe Fire and Rescue was dispatched to the 2900 block of Lakeview Drive on a motor vehicle crash involving a car and a garbage truck. 906, Battalion Chief Marlin Thompson, arrived on the scene and confirmed a rear end type collision involving a small four door Honda Civic that struck the rear of a BFI garbage truck. There was airbag deployment in the Civic. Fort Oglethorpe Engine 1 and Angel EMS arrived and while Engine 1 was doing extrication from the Honda, medics from Angel EMS were treating the patient. Firefighters, using the “jaws of life”, removed the rear driver’s side door and the “B” post on that side of the car in order to be able to free the driver and for easier removal of the patient. Once removed, the victim was transported to Erlanger Hospital in serious condition by Angel EMS. It appeared that the truck was stopped to pick up garbage when it was struck from behind by the Honda. The driver was alone in the Honda Civic and no one in the garbage truck was injured. The accident is under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol. The Catoosa County Sheriff’s Department assisted with traffic control. |
