| Fatal House Fire in Whitfield County WHITFIELD COUNTY, GA – Monday, April 28, 2008 – At about 9:30 AM, the Whitfield County Fire Department was dispatched to Highway 41 at the Catoosa County line for a reported residential structure fire. At the same time, the Catoosa County Fire Department was dispatched to the same area because callers were unsure which county the fire was actually in. Whitfield County Firefighters arrived on the scene and reported that the fire was in their jurisdiction and gave the address as 3983 Highway 41. Firefighters were able to get a fairly quick knock down on the fire. During their primary search of the residence, firefighters discovered that the occupant, described as an elderly male, had not been able to exit the structure and was deceased. Fire Chief Carl Collins stated that so far firefighters have been unable to determine the cause and origin of the fire. An investigation is currently underway. The victim is said to have lived alone and did suffer from some medical issues but no further details were available. |
