Highway 58 VFD Makes Save

HAMILTON COUNTY, TENN – Monday, April 28, 2008 – Shortly Before 6:00 PM, the Hamilton County
9-1-1 Communications Center received a fire alarm at 6815 Bluff View Circle.  As the Highway 58
Volunteer Fire Department was being dispatched the 9-1-1 center was notified of a structure fire at
that location.

Bluff View Circle is located in a fairly remote area with no hydrants in the area so firefighters quickly
requested a tanker response to the scene.  As the first engine arrived, firefighters observed smoke
coming from the rear of the large two story wood frame dwelling and quickly stretched a line to begin
fighting the fire.

Firefighters were able to ascertain that the majority of the fire was on the back porch of the house.
Quick work by firefighters kept the fire from spreading much beyond the porch.  There was minimal
fire damage to the interior of the house and some smoke spread throughout the house but caused
very little damage.  The majority of the damage was to the porch itself as well as one exterior wall.

The homeowner explained to firefighters that some children had left fireworks on the rear porch.  How
those fireworks ignited is unclear but that it thought to be the cause of the fire.  The exact cause of
the fire is under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department.  One teenage boy who
was fighting the fire with a garden hose prior to the arrival of firefighters later began complaining of
possible smoke inhalation and was treated by medics with Hamilton County EMS.  Medic 3 transported
him to Erlanger Hospital.  There were no other injuries as a result of the fire.
