Fort Oglethorpe Firefighters Douse Large Dumpster Fire

FORT OGLETHORPE, GA – Monday, March 24, 2008 – At about 7:40 PM, Fort Oglethorpe Station 1
was alerted to a dumpster fire to the rear of 418 Battlefield Parkway.  Engine 1 responded and while
en route firefighters spotted a large plume of smoke in the vicinity of the reported fire.

Engine 1 arrived to find a large dumpster fully involved with fire.  Firefighters immediately pulled the
trash line from the front of the engine and went to work, quickly dousing the fire.  Once the fire was
knocked down, firefighters could see that there was discarded furniture on fire.

The quick response helped firefighters avert a potentially serious situation as the dumpster was
directly under power lines and the fire was beginning to reach those lines.  In addition, the close
proximity of the dumpster to the commercial structure added to the exposure problems.  Engine 1 was
back in service within a half hour.
