Double Entrapment for Fort Oglethorpe

Fort Oglethorpe. GA – Monday, March 17, 2008 – At about 2:45 PM, Fort Oglethorpe Fire and
Rescue responded to a reported motor vehicle accident with rollover and entrapment in the 2900
block of Lafayette Road.  Battalion Chief Doug Flury (907) and Engine 1 responded.

Battalion Chief Flury arrived moments later and reported to vehicles involved with one on its side
and entrapment in both vehicles, and multiple injuries.  Chief Flury requested an additional
response from Rescue 1, Ladder 1 and Engine 8.  Along with the Fire Department, Angel EMS
responded with an ambulance and a supervisor, and Hutcheson EMS responded with two medic
units and a supervisor.

The vehicle on its side was a Chevrolet Blazer and it contained two patients.  They were both
removed through the windshield of the vehicle within a few minutes.  One of the patients, a female,
is believed to be in critical condition, and the second one is in serious condition.  Once extricated,
they were immediately transported to Erlanger Hospital.

The driver of the second vehicle, a Honda Civic was extricated using the “jaws of life.”  Firefighters
had to remove the driver’s door in order for medical personnel to gain access to him.  Once the
door was removed and the patient was stabilized, he was removed from the car, and immediately
transported to Erlanger Hospital in serious conditiuon.

Per Fort Oglethorpe Police Department, it appeared that the Blazer was southbound on Lafayette
Road prior to the accident and the Honda was pulling out onto that roadway from Enscore Street.
The Blazer struck the Civic broadside at the driver’s door.

Lafayette Road was closed for over an hour as crews worked the accident and cleaned up the
scene.  The accident is being investigated by the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department.
