Afternoon Fire Strikes East Brainerd Home

HAMILTON COUNTY, TENN – Thursday, February 21, 2008 – At about 1:20 PM, the Tri Community
Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 8918 Villa Rica Circle in the
East Brainerd area of Hamilton County, just east of the city of Chattanooga.  Engine 1245 arrived on the
scene and reported a working fire in a single story residence with a basement.  Heavy smoke was visible
from the front of the residence and fire from the rear.

Firefighters immediately pulled two inch and three quarter lines.  One line was stretched to the rear and
one was taken inside to fight the fire.  Inside firefighters were met with heavy fire and began an
aggressive attack.  A second line was also taken inside to fight the fire.  Fire had extended into the attic,
through the roof, and into several rooms of the house.  As firefighters made progress into the attic they
encountered a very heavy fire load and had difficulty in making quick headway because of it.  A positive
water source was established from a nearby hydrant.  Several more pieces of apparatus were present
and all hands were placed into service.

Firefighters had the fire under control in about twenty five minutes.  It is believed that the fire was
possibly started by a riding lawn tractor that had been used just a little bit before the fire was discovered
and had been stored under the rear deck.  This is unofficial though and the cause and origin of the fire
is under investigation.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department was on the scene for assistance and medics with Hamilton
County EMS were on stand by.  There were no injuries as a result of the fire.  The house suffered
extensive damage and is unable to be occupied.
