Rossville Duplex Heavily Damaged in Early Morning Fire

ROSSVILLE, GA – Thursday, January 24, 2008 – At about 2:00 AM, the Rossville Fire Department
was dispatched to a reported apartment fire at 104 James Street.  Almost immediately, a Hutcheson
EMS unit was on the scene and reported heavy involvement to a duplex.  Engine 1 arrived within
minutes and confirmed heavy fire through the roof.

The second in engine laid a supply line from the corner of James Street and McFarland Avenue and
firefighters joined the battle.  A third engine company from Rossville and firefighters from Walker State
Prison also responded.  Firefighters stretched a line into both sides of the duplex and a third one to
the D side of the structure to protect the exposure.  This is the first in a line of duplexes that are very
close together and firefighters did a good job to keep the flames from jumping to the adjacent
structure.

Firefighters were able to make a good stop on the fire confining the majority of the damage to the roof
and rear half of the building.  The structure was left uninhabitable though.  One family was displaced
due to the fire but there were no injuries.

The Georgia State Fire Marshal was notified of the fire and the cause and origin are under
investigation.  The dollar amount of the loss is unknown at this time.
