Forsyth County Works Fatal Structure Fire

FORSYTH COUNTY, GA – Saturday, January 19, 2008 - At approximately 2:07AM, Forsyth County
Engines 12, 3, 8, Truck 1, Med 12 and Battalion 1 were alerted of a residential structure fire with
possible entrapment located on Concord road off Bannister Road near the Dawson County Line.  
Engine 3 arrived on the scene to find a one story wood frame structure with heavy involvement
showing fire from all sides.  Engine 12 arrived right behind Engine 3 and reverse laid a supply line
500 feet to the nearest hydrant.  Engine 12's crew assisted the crew of Engine 3 with deploying two 1
3/4 inch attack lines and a 2 1/2 inch attack line.  Fire crews were able to search one bedroom before
being forced out by the intense fire.  Truck 1 arrived and assisted with knockdown and protecting
exposures.  Engine 8 arrived and deployed a skid load to the rear of the structure to begin attack on
several out buildings and a large shop that housed a corvette and a pickup truck.  Engine 5 was
special called to assist.  The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes.  Once the fire was
controlled crews entered the structure to continue the search and they found a male subject that had
succumbed to the fire.

This is the first fire fatality in six years in Forsyth County.  Crews remained on the scene until 7AM
completing overhaul operations.  Forsyth County Bomb and Arson Investigators are investigating the
fire.  The cause is believed to be accidental.
