East Ridge Makes Another Great Stop

EAST RIDGE, TENN – At about 8:30 AM, Monday, January 11, 2010 the East Ridge Fire Department
responded to a report of a residential structure fire at 3709 Edwards Terrace just east of John Ross
Road.  Battalion 1, Commander Mike Williams, was the first to arrive and reported heavy smoke
visible from a one story wood frame.  He requested an “all call” for off duty personnel and also one
Engine company from Fort Oglethorpe Fire and Rescue (Georgia) and one Engine Company from
Rossville Fire Department (Georgia).  

Firefighters made an interior attack on the fire and were able to get a quick knock down.  One attack
line was stretched into the front door and one to the B side.  

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is under investigation by the East Ridge Fire
Department Arson Unit.  One part of the house has been separated into an apartment and both the
house and apartment were occupied when the fire broke out.  Both occupants were able to escape
unharmed and were placed into Fire Department Battalion vehicles to provide shelter from the
extreme cold.  The American Red Cross was contacted and responded to assist the homeowners.

Fire damage was contained to three rooms and their contents.  The remainder of the house suffered
some smoke damage.  Erik Hopkins, Public Information Officer for the Fire Department estimated
damages at about $20-30,000.  

Medics from Memorial Medic 5 were on the scene in case of injury.  Chattanooga Hamilton County
Rescue Squad provided rehab services.  Fort Oglethorpe Engine 8 and Rossville Engine 6
responded for mutual aid.  801, Director of Public Safety Eddie Phillips and 802, Deputy Fire Chief
Mike Flynn, were also on the scene.
